For identifying or informing misconduct and unethical behavior, our decision about the breach will be made by in-depth consultation with the Research Ethics Committees.
The Research Ethics Committees consists of six members, including the editor-in chief, editorial manager, editorial secretary and three directors (otology, rhinology, head and neck). The papers scheduled to be published are reviewed by the ethics committee in accordance with ethics rules every two months, and extraordinary sessions are convened at any time with issue.

In cases of suspected misconduct, related sufficient information would be collected for deciding infringement, and if discipline is needed, authors may be given the opportunity to respond to any allegations.

By recognizing as violation of publication ethics, the editorial board might take actions to the authors as follows:

1) A letter to the authors covering the misconduct and educating the ethics.
2) A official letter to the head of the author’s department or funding agency.
3) Publication of a formal notice of the editor-in-chief detailing the misconduct and discipline on our website for a month.
4) Imposition of a formal embargo on contributions from the responsible authors for three years.
5) Formal retraction or withdrawal of the publication from the journal.
6) Reporting the case and outcome to a National Research Foundation of Korea and Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies.

The editorial board has carried out education programs regarding accurate publication ethics during the national congress annually, and has incorporated a plagiarism screening service, “CrossCheck”, into the submission system focusing on prevention of the publication ethics violation rather than the corrective action itself.
